Theory test: What would you do?

Postby ZhongQi on July 28th, 2010, 3:14 pm

Hello again fellow QLDcruising folks!

I was researching about my WF Festiva 1.3 the other day and I found out one shocking fact!!!

It has only 47Kw!!! (No wonder it doesn't climb mountains!)

So, just for the fun of it, I have started this thread for crazy/fascinating/stoopid ideas on upgrading it...

Just please no "I'd upgrade to a new car" as it is a theory exercise! (Everyone inc. me knows it shoud be in a skip, not modded!) :D

It has a B3 SOHC 8v motor and (very) short geared gearbox and is basically a Mazda 121 bubble with a different body!

Let the madness begin!!!

Can you fit a Ford/Mazda BPT motor in it? That's the motor out of the Turbo TX3's...

As ben has said. Then slam it with some low offset rims. They look surprisingly good.
Just as long as this stays theoretical, haha, i know you have some pretty good taste in cars, just follow those lines :P

You can, provided the car isn't under the new regulation which is year 2000+.

I've got an older motor in my car... it's a series that was available when my car was made, but it's a 1995 model motor and my car is a 1998. No problems getting it past DOT at all.

well since big power isn't going to be achieveable i would be looking at making it handle, sure do some bolt ons like extractors and exhaust and make it lighter. power only helps accleration weight reduction improves everything
its time to nut up or shut up

Very good suggestion actually. If you pulled EVERYTHING except bare essentials to keep it semi legal out of the car, you'd have a some good fun. Effectively you'd have a 47kw go kart.

I had removed the rear seat ages ago... It was a massive improvement!

The car needs shocks, springs, bushes and exhaust replaced so it will be a LONG time before the WF can be used in anger again!!! haha1

PS: Thanx all who have posted so far as this thread has been a fun read! :hot:

I actually almost installed a 1.5 B5 DOHC 16v weapon from a Jap spec Mazda MX-3 (Google it, I dare you!)

The Plenum chamber would have hit the firewall so... Nope, BPT would be too big! (Not to mention too hard to get passed!)

If I had the money for a custom plenum I'd still do it but I'd rather save my cash for a MUCH better car!!!

getting pass DOT is easy, they don't know what they are looking at. Rule of thumb for engine swaps is if you use a engine the same year or newer, they have to comply with the same emissions. Technically you can install a older motor as long as is complies with the same emissions adr's. You can also install a older engine that never matched the ADR's for which your car was complied for, but this means you have to prove that the engines emission's are with in spec(testing). Which is why LPG comes in handy Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_06

also the B8's and BP's are a different(larger) block than the baby B's. they are not easily interchangable.

I was thinking.... ANYTHING!!!

Seriously, I have got a newer car already but I have to fix it up to get it roadworthy... Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_20

When it is registered I'll try to work out how to put photo's up or at the least my profile pic will change (currently a RA25 Celica built by Top Secret).

But it will stay a secret until then. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_31

Pics are easy :) All you need to do is go to the bottom of the posting screen and you'll see a tab called "Upload Attachment" - click and then browse for the file... hit upload and wait... then you're done :)
